Participate

Our efforts will be in vain without massive national participation. While web-based activism has proven to be an effective tool in raising money and awareness, ending NCLB will require more than money and facts. We need teachers, parents, scholars, policy analysts, and other concerned citizens to participate in any number of ways. These include:

* Signing up for our newsletter.

* Participating in our conversations.

* Telling others about our efforts to end NCLB and encouraging them to get involved. This includes handing out literature informing friends and neighbors about the negative impact NCLB has had on our schools. Every individual living inside of this country has a vested interest in the education of children, as they are the future caretakers of our democracy. You help us every time you remind a fellow citizen of this fact.

* Printing out the petition, collecting names, and mailing it to:

Educator Roundtable
215 Skyline Rd
Madison, AL 35758

* Writing letters to the editors of local papers, national papers, and syndicated periodicals that inform readers about any of the problems addressed in our petition. Have we left something out? Let us know and include it in the letter you write. It is our intention to send thousands, if not tens of thousands, of letters/op-eds on the same day. Additionally, we plan on contacting representatives in all 50 states in order to inform them about the negative consequences of this legislation. We will provide a template for individuals wishing to participate in this campaign, which, in the spirit of our larger call to end the standardization of America's children, you might want to avoid using!

* Attending board of education meetings at local, state, and national levels in order to voice intelligent opposition to reauthorization.

* Donating money so we can 1) purchase space in national periodicals, 2) pay for the creation of legislation tailored to each state, and 3) support a small staff (at present there is no staff, just a few individuals dedicated to saving our public schools) to organize, coordinate, and maintain this campaign.

* Writing us and giving us suggestions for how to improve our message.

After we successfully stop No Child Left Behind’s reauthorization, this roundtable will either disband or vote on another policy issue and repeat this process.
